Benefits from Turmeric and Why I Take It

The trending topic of turmeric among the fitness and health industry is quite the buzz (even though turmeric has been around for thousands of years in Asia)! Many health professionals incorporate the popular root into their daily health routines. Today I am going to talk about the benefits I had from it and why I started to take turmeric juice shots.

Turmeric is a root and part of the ginger root family. You can find turmeric in yellow deli mustard, popular curry dishes, traditional Asian cuisines, and even at your local juice bar. When I became diagnosed with Lupus I started researching different ways I can help my nutrition and how I feel, since turmeric was popular I decided to try turmeric juice shots from a local juice bar. I began to take it and realized I started to feel slightly better health wise and energy wise. Now I'm not sure if this is a placebo effect since I already knew turmeric had many health benefits, so this is something I just tried for a few months, then I took a break and stopped taking it to see how I felt.

First, I started to research turmeric before taking it, so I went on the good ol interweb and looked at tons of articles and sources, previously a few books I read talked about turmeric too. A lot of articles said that turmeric had anti-inflammatory effects on our bodies, and this immediately caught my attention since my body is inflamed a lot from the Lupus. I also found out turmeric was used as ancient medicines long ago and this sparked my interest in trying it. From my previous health knowledge I gained in school, I decided I wanted to take the turmeric root juice shots instead of powder form because I knew it was actual turmeric and the juice would absorb faster in my digestive system since the turmeric is in liquid form. Some people take turmeric supplements, but I rather know that I am actually taking fresh turmeric root which is why I take the turmeric root combined with fresh apple juice shots ran through a juicer (plus the juicebar I went to measured out how many ounces are in a turmeric shot).

I told my doctors I was taking the turmeric root juice shots and I was feeling slightly better, which they thought was good too. I took it for a few months and then I stopped taking it for a few months just to see how I felt and I felt pretty good, so now every once in a while I'll go to the juice bar and get a turmeric shot if I am not feeling too great. Overall, I think my experience with trying turmeric has had its benefits. Again I am just sharing my experience, I am not a dietician or a doctor, so always consult with a physician.
